ReplyDeleteWhat made people Americans was their belief that they wanted to be free from foreign rule. The first Americans would have been the revolutionists who fought to give us this country. Believing to be free is what our country still holds today. That is why the U.S. has a high rate of immigrants comming into America.
ReplyDeleteWhat we as americans can take from the Pilgrims is that no matter who or what we are, we should be kind to everyone. However, Roger Williams is allowing us to learn that peacemaking is possible. That there are no borders for "friendship". The U.S. is made up of many different races. That's the beauty of America!
ReplyDeleteWell, Elizabeth and Kyle pretty much summed up a good enough answer to cover just about all of it maybe. Another thing we can take from the Pilgrims is the choice of going where ever we want to be free of whatever is a major problem that isn't working for you such as the problem stated in Kyle's response. Something we still do that is important is Thanksgiving because it gets the whole family together and everything is at peace for the most part.
ReplyDeleteWe are americans for believeing in freedom and rights. That is what a american is to me.thanksgiving is a big part that we have today that the pilgrims gave us and if that would have never happened america wouldnt be what it is today. It is also great that we have our freedom we may not have as much peace as we use to but it will get that way again someday.
ReplyDeleteWell the pilgrims were willing and determined enough to have freedom that they left their country, and went to a land with very little civilization other than the Native Americans and set up their own life. Even though they went through a lot of hard times they still stayed strong, and as proof they managed to pull off the celebration of Thanksgiving which we Americans still celebrate today. By showing there wish for freedom they set up the standard for Americans that we all should be free, which is why nowadays people from all over the world come to America to be free.
ReplyDeleteBeing an American is being free. Our freedom is a very important part of being an American. Thats the main reason why pilgrims came here is to be free. Also being an American, we have alot of opportunities that other people that arn't dont have, so we are very fortunate. Being an American is being able to stand up for what you believe in.
ReplyDeleteThey were both wanting religous freedom. The early Americans were willing to fight for their freedom of religon. They were able to make friends with the native of their new land and live in freedom.
ReplyDeleteWell I'll start with Roger Williams, he was a strong minded person and backed up his opinion. Thats where I think self-image and beliefs play a big role in society today. We all have the right to choose what we do and say about everything. Now the pilgrims they were people just tryna experience no ways of life and differnt cultures. In doing so they traveled and experienced a whole new world. Just like we do today when we travel to other countries.
ReplyDeleteBeing American is basically one of the best things you can be. That is why the Pilgrims came over to America. In some countries you are not aloud to have the freedom of speech, for example. In America you are aloud that freedom of speech. The first Americans were fighting for religious purposes. They wanted to be free. They were willing to pretty much die for what they believed in.
ReplyDeleteWell pretty much any person that lives in America can "claim to be an American" but being a true American to me is being proud to have rights that most people come to America for. Standing up for those rights and not being scared to die so that our children can have those same opportunities and freedoms that our ancestors wanted when they came to America. The pilgrims risked their lives just coming here and some didn't even make it here. They just believed in staying strong and starting a new free life in America. Which is like immigrants today who come here to study in America because we have so many opportunities and chances for a better life. Thanks to our ancestors who created America for the country that it is today ! Roger Williams was a separatist who criticized Puritan leaders for not completely breaking from the corrupt Anglican Church. Roger Williams believed in religious freedom which we all believe in today.
ReplyDeleteI think and american is free! We still do the same things as americans and eat the same food as american!!!! We still got the same animals and still plant the same crops thats what i think an american is !!!!!
ReplyDeleteBeing an American means to believe in the rights of all people and that power should be within the people. That is the ideals that the colonists brought with them when they came from Britain. They also formed these ideals into our government later on. We still carry these ideals to this day, and hopefully we will for many years to come.
ReplyDeletean american is a person that is proud to be here and a person that loves america. It is also a person that lives in America.I am an American and Im proud to be one too.
ReplyDeleteRoger Williams stood for what he believed. Even though he got kicked out of his town he didnt let that stop him. He even started his own town and religon. This is one of many virtues that Americans had back then and continue to have today. The pilgrims were similar to Roger and stood up for what they believed in. They were also sent away from their home town. When they forced away they kept things positive and proceeded witht their religon as they interpreted it. As we now do today. They also made friends with natives and created Thanksgiving which is still celebrated today.
ReplyDeleteThe citizen of the United State. They came from England and they own new land on East coast of North America Continent. Start by they thought that they can rule by themselves and didn't have to follow the England rule anymore. This group of people in the start Era of USA is Patriot. Then they expanded their country from East coast to West coast and be a one of the greatest country in the world.
