Service to Your Country

As we look back on the terrorist attacks of 9-11 and as we discuss the Civil War, war and volunteering for the military comes to mind. What would cause you to volunteer yourself and join our miltary (any branch) during a time of war?

  1. Honestly, I would'nt join. I would'nt want to leave my family and friends behind. So like i said I would'nt join.

  2. I am a proud American. I feel honored and privileged to call myself an American and have the rights that I have because I am a citizen. I also value life a great deal. If I admire and respect the men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan right now, however, I have no plans to volunteer to serve after high school. If our nation was in a major war and our president called on all able bodied men to fight for our freedoms, I feel that I would not think twice about protecting those freedoms in war. Had I been 18 when September 11th happened I feel that I would have volunteered for the military.

  3. I could not join the military during a war because it is very scary i would not be able to battle. I guess if we really needed help i would do it to help serve for my country.

  4. I plan on elisting anyways in the airforce. But if i wasnt, the only thing that would make me enlist would be danger to my family or loved ones. If ever there is a time that my loved ones or my way of live is jeperdized, i would certainly enlist. Similar to the southerners. Their way of life was in danger, so they rose up to try to stop it.

  5. I am already planing on joining the national guard when I become 18 in a year. I would fight for my country because our fore fathers fought for us so me could be free. So I would fight so that my great grandkids can be free like I am.

  6. It is really scary but I can do it. Nowadays we have our country because the ancestors fought for our country. It is our turn to fight for our country and kids. I love my country and want pay back to thank you. I want to be in land-military or in the tank.

In my country, high school boy students (there are only grade10-12) must have military class once a week for half a day at the barrack. It is three years long. I finished first year already.
This is a class for high school but we have directly military school also.

  7. Well, had it been then and if I was of age, I'd do it. I'd do it now even though I feel that it is more dangerous over there now than before maybe. But seeing how I have a bleeding disorder, I can't join any branch of the military.

  8. I wouldn't join unless our country entered a time where we need soldiers, and the enemy is on our shores then i would bare arms and join in the fight.

  9. If your younger sibling was getting attacked you would help. It's said that your suppose to love man like your own brother, so if our country is getting attacked that's a lot of siblings that could potentally get hurt. The main difference between these situations is that war is more people but it has the same princable. For this reason I would join the army. They have the most honorable job available. They give their lives just to protect the rest of us, and make sure our nation dosen't change. Those before us had to join the army to get us where we are and now it's our turn. We even fought each other in the civil war for what each side believed to be right. So why wouldn't we fight those outside our country. People make it seem like if you enter war its a death sentence they don't just die, they also save each others lives and ours. Although i dont agree with war and believed it should be used as a very last result, i know we wouldnt be as far today without it.

  10. Well joining the military would be a life changing decision and moment. It is a very noble and respectful thing to do. My dad has been in the Army since he was 20 or so. He has been in the war ,it was so scary, anyways he went to Afghanistan, Kuwait, Iran, Iraq, Bruis Willis even came to support the troops in Kuwait i think . My dad even went down to help with New Orleans ,he was on the front page of the news paper throwing a sand bag into a pile. Basically I look up to my dad as a hero along with every one that has joined any service for our country. I have been thinking of joining the military , something to do with computers or delivering supplies who knows ? You don't necessarily have to go join and be a soldier just be somewhat a helper for the soldiers that's the way I look at it , but yes I would join.

  11. Serving one's country during a time of war presents the possibility of the greatest sacrifice, one's life for the safety of his or her nation and its people. However, it is not something that should be put aside as not possible for any of us. For it is this service that millions have given before us that has allowed all of us to live the way we do, in the country that we do, enjoying the freedoms that we have.

It is important, I think, to understand that millions before us have given the greatest sacrifice, and that one day if you or I are called upon that we should proudly answer that call for service so that others might live in this great country.

I really enjoyed reading the ideas some mentioned about using service to further one's education, serving the country in ways other than the military, and the fact that some are already planning on joining one branch of our military. You are all arguments against those who question your generation!
