Economic Inspired Creativity

Let's play pretend! Fort Wayne and the rest of the country have been thrown into a depression wqual to that of the 1930s. It's Friday night and you and your friends are hanging out. What are you going to do? Take into account these horrible facts. You have no car, no TV, no telephone. Your stereo and CDs have been sold at the pawnshop to help feed the family. I will let you have a small radio (speaker only kicks about 10 watts, sorry). No, you do not have enough money to go see a movie. No, you do not have a TV, DVD player, or money with which to rent a movie. It's the summer and there are not Northrop High School sporting events to go to, and you do not have enough money to go see a TinCaps game. Lastly, it's not the week of the Three Rivers Festival. If it costs money, you can't do it. Please keep these suitable for classroom discussion!

  1. In a time of depression, not much can ever be done. Without much money, I would save all the money I had for nessicities such as food. For entertainment I would do what most young people did back then. They swam. Even though we don't have the cleanest rivers, it still provides entertainment. To earn money, I would just find metal scraps on the ground and sell them for the lowest price I can. The lower the price I sell at, the more likely that a scrap business will buy from me.

  2. Well first of all, you spelled equal wrong [wqual]???? If Fort Wayne was in a depression, I would go around the neighborhood and throw toilet paper on random houses and trees. Honestly, I do not know what i would do if I were in that situation. I guess it means I can't get my nails done, and like Kyle I would also swim. I would probably stay at home write poetry about the situation, and possibly get it published and become a really famous poet, have enough money to do what I have to, get what I need and not have to worry about the depression! Maybe not. =/

  3. I would take turns with my freinds chucking rocks at each other. I know it would hurt but what else is there to do when you have no money or anything. I have no idea how kids our age made it back in the 30's it must have really sucked for them

  4. I think in the depression time we will work for long time to stay away from the "poety" or starvation. We can plant the vegetables and fruits by ourselves. We can eat and sell them. For the entertainments, I can make the castle sand like a little kid, make the paper to be a ball and it will become many games to play such like chase and throw it to each others, football(wooo touch down!!), writting novel or cartoon and sell it. The best acitivities must be exercise because it makes us healthy and strong and also help us to do the work easier and do it without buying training machine. You can practice the martial art also. It can helps you because in the great depression there will be a robber or some guy who want to force you and take your stuffs.
If you are a brilliant thinker. You can invent or create the new things. You will become a rich person!!
